Become A Docent (Tour Guide)
The El Paso Museum of History is currently accepting applications for our new docent program. Docents are an integral part of the museum and help connect visitors to our collection and exhibitions through engaging, dynamic guided tours. The museum’s tours are free and serve a wide range of ages from K-12 students to lifelong-learner adults. No experience is needed—just a passion for history and storytelling! A thorough and comprehensive training will be provided to all docents. In exchange for their time, docents receive a free adult membership, which includes discounted fees and early/guaranteed access to all El Paso Museum of History events.

Smithsonian Young Ambassador Program
Applications are currently closed for the 2025 Young Ambassador Program
In partnership with the Smithsonian Museum of the American Latino, the El Paso Museum of History is proud to offer one high school senior the opportunity to be a Smithsonian Young Ambassador each year. The Young Ambassadors Program (YAP) is a nationally recognized program for graduating high school seniors that fosters the next generation of community-conscious leaders in the arts, sciences, and humanities via the Smithsonian Institution and its resources.
YAP students experience a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and participate in workshops with preeminent scholars and community leaders. After a week in Washington, students participate in a 4-week community practicum at one of 20 partner cultural or science museums across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This experience allows students to gain practical knowledge and focus on skill-building, as well as experience the inner workings of museums.
